Community Well-being Survey – our chance to have a say. Look for it in your mailbox next week!

We are all aware of the urgent issue of a lack of public/community transport in the outlying regions ((including Mapua/Ruby Bay& Districts) and how it affects our communities.

A working group of local organizations has put together a survey to ascertain potential demand for such transport and also to gather data on other aspects of life which affect our residents’ well-being.

Along with other local organizations, the MDCA has agreed to send out this information and then two further reminders to our members about this important opportunity to get involved and have a say.

A paper copy of the survey will be delivered to all letter-boxes in the immediate Mapua/Ruby area – sometime during the week of June 24 – please look out for it and keep it nearby!
It will give you the link to fill-in the survey on-line (the preferred option). If you are completing the paper version- you can collect larger-print sized versions from the Mapua Community Hall or Library if that is easier for you!

Katherine Kingdon ph 540 2554 or 027 5445780 is willing to deliver an extra copy to anyone, help fill it out and deliver it to the hall if any such help is needed.

All completed surveys ( online or paper version) must be submitted by July 31.

A PLEA FOR OUR WHEELBARROW......

The Dominion Flats project has lost a wheelbarrow, or rather, someone has felt their need for it is greater than ours. It was bought with funds given to the community for this project and is used a lot by the team to carry materials up and down the tracks. It is quite distinctive with bright orange handles and reasonably new and we need it.

Would whoever is responsible for this PLEASE RETURN IT. You can do it in the dark and no one will know it was you but your neighbour may wonder why you have a new barrow with either 'Dominion Flats Project ' written on the side, or an area where the wording has been taken off. Water and Wastewater Construction Update

Notice of upcoming construction work
Work will start in mid-June on water and wastewater upgrades on Aranui Road and Stafford Drive.

This essential project will improve water and wastewater services for Mapua. The current network is operating at a lower than ideal pressure and pipe breaks regularly interrupt water supply. Parts of the wastewater system are often at capacity during rain events - which leads to overflows - and there is little or no emergency storage or odour control. The upgrades will significantly improve the infrastructure serving Mapua now and in the future.

Work will begin at Mapua Wharf and finish at Pine Hill Road in Ruby Bay in late 2020. Our anticipated stage plan is shown below. To minimise disruption, work will be completed in short sections, typically 100-200m long. If we need to change the staging plan, we will update the community.

How will it impact you?

To allow construction works to happen, you will notice the following:

• Heavy machinery and trucks working.
• Traffic Management: traffic signs, temporary traffic lights and traffic controllers.
• Disruption to driveway access: our aim is to keep this to a minimum and we will work with individual property owners to address any special needs. If your property is affected, we will let you know in advance.

We appreciate that construction works may cause inconvenience to residents, visitors, motorists, cyclists and pedestrians and we thank you in advance for your anticipated patience and co-operation.

If you are a tenant of this property, we ask that you let your landlord know about the planned works.

How can I find out more about the project?

If you would like to find out more about the project, you are welcome to attend an information session being hosted by the Mapua and Districts Community Association. Representatives from Donaldson Civil Ltd and Tasman District Council will be there to talk about the project and answer any questions.

Project Description: New water main and wastewater main to service Mapua and Ruby Bay.
Upgrades to two existing pump stations.

Contractor: Donaldson Civil
Contract Value: $6,204,979.16
Contract Duration: June 2019 until November 2020. There will be no work on Aranui Road over the busy summer period between 4 December 2019 and 13 April 2020.
